Statement

Lois Pearson (b.2002) graduated from the University of Westminster in 2024 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Film. She primarily paints gardens and the countryside, drawing on the landscape of Shropshire where she grew up. The landscape has remained a constant throughout her life, providing a sense of familiarity that continues to shape her practice.

Working outdoors is integral to her process and allows her to respond directly to the changing colours and movement around her, something that cannot be recreated in the studio. Working outside encourages her to stay present and grounded.

Her background in film influences the way she creates compositions and tells stories through her paintings. Winding pathways and trees often fill the paintings like characters, giving the landscape a sense of personality and theatricality. She is inspired by enchantment: seeing familiar places in a way that makes them feel magical and full of possibility.

Working primarily in oil paint, she creates paintings that invite viewers into these imagined worlds, hoping to offer a moment of escape and comfort.
